What I Believe About Healing
Healing is not about becoming someone new.
It is about becoming more fully who you were created to be.
I believe every person is created in the image of God with immeasurable worth, dignity, and purpose. No experience, diagnosis, or painful chapter can take that away.
I believe your story makes sense.
The anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, emotional numbness, and exhaustion that bring people into my office are not signs that you are broken.
More often, they are adaptive responses - wise strategies that helped you survive overwhelming experiences, even if they no longer serve you today.
Before we ask you to let go of those patterns, we first seek to understand what they have been protecting.
Healing begins with understanding, not judgment.
I believe healing begins with compassion.
Shame tells us to hide, strive, and prove ourselves.
Compassion invites us to be honest.
When we are met with kindness instead of condemnation, something begins to soften. We become free to tell the truth about our lives, receive care, and begin again.
I believe lasting change grows best in that kind of environment.
I believe healing requires safety.
People rarely heal while they are defending themselves.
Healing happens when your nervous system begins to recognize that you are no longer alone, no longer in danger, and no longer defined by what has happened to you.
Safety creates the conditions where courage can grow.
I believe healing needs room.
We live in a culture that praises productivity and rewards self-sacrifice.
Many of us have learned to keep going no matter how weary we feel.
But healing cannot be rushed.
It needs room to breathe.
Room to grieve.
Room to ask honest questions.
Room to rest.
This conviction is at the heart of everything I do—from weekly therapy sessions to The Root Intensive.
I believe healing happens in relationship.
We are created for connection—with God, with others, and with ourselves.
Trauma often disrupts those connections.
Healing gently restores them.
While therapy is an important relationship, my hope is that your healing extends far beyond our time together into your family, your friendships, your faith, and your everyday life.
I believe flourishing begins at the root.
A flourishing tree does not become healthy by polishing its leaves.
It flourishes because its roots are nourished.
The same is true for us.
Rather than simply managing symptoms, I want to understand the deeper story—your experiences, your relationships, your nervous system, your beliefs, and your unmet needs.
When we tend those roots with compassion, wisdom, and grace, lasting change becomes possible.
I believe hope is always worth nurturing.
No matter how long you've lived in survival mode, your story is not over.
Healing is possible.
Peace is possible.
Joy is possible.
Not because life becomes easy, but because you no longer have to carry it alone.
Most of all...
Healing is not about fixing what is broken.
It is about removing the barriers that keep you from living as the person God created you to be.
It is an invitation to live with greater freedom, deeper peace, stronger relationships, and renewed hope.
It is my privilege to walk alongside people as they discover that flourishing doesn't come from striving harder.
It begins at the root.
